SM4RA is a little program that allows the SysOp to send a message to a user
currently online on any of nodes 1-3 from another multitasking window.

SM4RA is NetMailWare. If you like this program and use it, please send me
routed OR crash netmail. Bug reports, suggestions, or cosmetic critiques
are always welcome as well! SM4RA has been tested and successfully run
under DesQview, W4WG3.11, OS/2 Warp, and Win95. SM4RA is promised to do
absolutely NOTHING except take up hard drive space. The author(s) of this
program take NO responsibilities and will NOT be held accountable for it's
actions!

Umm, a computer! A RemoteAccess Bbs, and a multitasking environment such
as DesQview, Windows, OS/2, or Win95. SM4RA has NOT been tested in any
network environment. If you are running it in this environment, I'd like
to know about it.

SM4RA simply accepts up to 10 lines of input from the SysOp. Be careful to
NOT go over the maximum length of each line. Then it will ask you which
node you wish to send the message to, or abort all together. Once you have
told SM4RA which node to send the message to, it will then write the
contents of your input to the appropriate NODE#.RA file and place it in
your semaphore directory. RemoteAccess scans this directory constantly and
checks for the existance of semaphore files and takes action accordingly
based on the filename. NODE#.RA simply tells RemoteAccess to display the
contents of this file to the user currently on the specified node. After it
is displayed to the user, RemoteAccess will 'clean-up' the semaphore files
afterwards, so you don't have to worry about 'junk' files lying around
your HardDrive.

│ ▒▒ How to set up SM4RA ▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒ │
└───────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┘
Unarchive the contents of SM4RAV10.ZIP into any directory of your choice.
Using your favorite text editor, edit the sample SM4RA.CFG file. NOTE: The
config file MUST be named SM4RA.CFG! Line 1 should contain the path to
your RemoteAccess semaphore files directory. ie: C:\RA\SEM - - NOTE: DO
NOT INCLUDE THE TRAILING "\" BACKSLASH! Line 2 will contain simply a "Y"
or a "N". If you would like for SM4RA to append a 'wait for enter' key to
the message then set line 2 to "Y", if you do NOT want SM4RA to append the
'wait for enter' key, set line 2 to "N". If you have RACONFIG.SYSTEM.AFTER
MSGS.> set to 0, then you will NOT need SM4RA to append the message with
the 'wait enter' key and you should set line 2 to "N". If it (AFTER MSGS)
is set to anything else, then you should set line 2 to "Y". You must also
set RACONFIG.OPTIONS.SYSTEM.MULTI NODE.> to YES, even if you are only
running a single node BBS! Next simply set up SM4RA to be called from
another window from within your multitasker and you're ready to go!
┌───────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┐
│ ▒▒ How to Run SM4RA ▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒ │
└───────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┘
Once you have SM4RA unarchived to it's final resting place and have the
config file setup, you will need a way to run SM4RA. I multitask my Bbs
through DesQview, and accomplished this by simply adding another DV window
and having it call the SM4RA.EXE file. Under Advanced Options, I have this
window setup to close on exit. This way, I simply open the SM4RA window
with it's two-key hotkeys, type my message in, send it to node 1 and the
program will exit and the window will close! No batch file is needed! It
can also be run straight from the DOS command line as well. Once SM4RA has
been executed, you will be able to input up to 10 lines of text to send to
the user. (If you need more than this, you probably should be actually
chatting with the user!) Do NOT wrap each line over as this could cause
unpredictable results to the output file. A blank line will stop the
editor and display to you your proposed message. You will then be given
a choice to send this message to node 1, 2, or 3 or Quit the program and
abort the message all together. The choice box is manipulated with the
arrow keys. The Hotkeys "1", "2" and "3" are also available for nodes 1-3,
and Hotkey "Q" OR [Esc] key to quit the program and abort the message.

└───────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┘
I originally went shopping around for a program to do just this and found
a few good ones out there. HOWEVER, they did MORE than I needed and/or had
unregistered notices (which I cannot stand!). SM4RA started out as a batch
file and a couple of ansis with my favorite editor. Then it became a past
time trying to actually code a program to do what my batch file was doing.
As it turns out, I should have stuck with the batch files <BG>. Actaully,
I had lots of fun codeing this little program and have future hopes for it
as(if) my programming skills mature.

I would like to thank Robert Parker of The Hut 2 @FidoNet 1:19/51 for all
his help during the codeing of this program. Whenever I got stumped, or
decided I wanted something more than just what I had already, Robert was
there to help me out! Thanks Bear! I would also like to thank my wife
for putting up with me sitting on this thing for hours on end! She had
some nice input for the program as well! I would also like to thank the
following SysOps for their beta testing of SM4RA:
Bob Lantrip IRONSIDES BBS @FidoNet 1:19/131
Rich Andes Dragon's Den @FidoNet 1:19/97
Homer Parker Homer's Hut @FidoNet 1:299/120
Suggestions, comments, or bug reports should be sent to Joe Hornback,
Tornado Alley BBS @FidoNet 1:19/57. Or, call and log onto a WELL-TWEEKED
RA Bbs at 405-657-3976. The latest version of SM4RA will ALWAYS be
available for d/l direct from the Files Menu w/o having to dig through
file areas!
Happy RAing...
